The moment a match is made between a surrogate and intended parents is filled with excitement, hope, and anticipation. But what comes next? Let’s walk through the steps that follow this beautiful beginning.
📁 Step 1: Medical Records Review
Once the match is confirmed, the surrogate’s medical records are sent to the intended parents’ fertility clinic. The clinic’s team will carefully review her history to ensure she’s a good candidate for their protocols. This includes looking at past pregnancies, delivery outcomes, and any relevant health details.
🩺 Step 2: Medical Screening Appointment
If the records look promising, the surrogate is invited to the clinic for a full medical screening. This appointment is a key milestone—it’s where the clinic gets a firsthand look at her overall health and readiness.
Bloodwork is required for both the surrogate and her partner (if applicable). This helps rule out infectious diseases and ensures compatibility with the clinic’s safety standards.
Ultrasound and physical exams may be performed to assess uterine health and general wellness.
Once all tests are completed, the clinic will notify us whether the surrogate is medically cleared to proceed.
📜 Step 3: Legal Contracts
With medical clearance in hand, we move into the legal phase. The intended parents’ attorney will draft the surrogacy contract and send it to the surrogate’s legal representation.
The surrogate and her partner will review the contract with their attorney, discussing any questions or suggested changes.
This is a collaborative process—everyone’s voice matters.
Once all parties agree, the contract is finalized and notarized.
💊 Step 4: Medication Start
With legal contracts signed, we’re ready to begin the medical protocol. This is where the journey toward embryo transfer truly begins.
Stay tuned for our next blog, where we’ll walk through the medication phase and what to expect on transfer day. Every step brings us closer to the miracle we’re building together.
